Kansas City Resources

Alexandra’s House – A community based, peer support perinatal hospice program that provides active management and hope for families pregnant with or who have a baby with lethal anomalies and who is expected to die near or shortly after birth.  Part of their services includes helping to bring meaning to the families’ suffering, birth planning, attending doctor’s visits, testing, photography sessions, hospital-based labor and delivery, coordination of memorial services, and long-term bereavement care.

Centimano Counseling – The first and only specialty practice for perinatal counseling in the Kansas City metropolitan area.  1 in 7 women will experience depression, anxiety, or other distressing thoughts and feelings during pregnancy, postpartum, after a loss, or during the infertility process.  Sometimes the overwhelming feelings, thoughts and circumstances can no longer be navigated alone. Fortunately, symptoms can be managed with the guidance of professional help.  We are a team of mental health therapists and healthcare professionals that specialize in the mental health and well-being of women and their families in the reproductive years.  

KC HOPE  – Organized and hosted by Emilia’s Wings, KC HOPE is a Northland Kansas City support group for those who have lost babies through miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss.  Group gatherings take place the first Wednesday of every month from 7-9 pm at Good Shepherd Methodist Church (North Oak Location) in Kansas City, Missouri.

Kyleigh’s Gift – Created in memory of Kyleigh Elizabeth Weller, who passed away at birth on April 5, 2012, at the Liberty Hospital Birthing Center.  With the support of the Liberty Hospital Foundation, Kyleigh’s Gift supports bereaved families by providing Miscarriage Care Packages, sibling and parental bereavement books, and other bereavement resources to patients at Liberty Hospital.  Kyleigh’s Gift also encourages safe sleep practices for newborns by providing a Halo SleepSack for all newborns at The Liberty Hospital Birthing Center.  The Kyleigh’s Gift 5K Run/Walk is held in October and includes a candlelight ceremony to recognize National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

Lullaby of Hope – A ministry for women journeying through infertility, pregnancy, or infant loss.  They provide curated gift boxes and ship nationwide.

Serendipity Photography – A Kansas City-based Photographer specializing in memorial Photography.  An infant loss mom herself, Allix loves to bless other families in their journey of pregnancy or child loss by honoring their baby through Photography.  facebook.com/SerendipityPhotography5/

Shawnee Mission Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support Group – Meets the first and third Thursday of every month from 7:00-8:30 pm at the Center for Women’s Health, located within the Outpatient Entrance on the west side of Shawnee Mission Medical Center.  This group is open to those who have suffered a loss regardless of their stage in the grieving process. Members are encouraged to attend at any stage in their grief process; for some that is immediately after a loss and for others it is several months later. This group is a place where you can speak of your loss or choose to listen. There is no pressure; instead, it is a place where you can find comfort. Come together, come alone or come with a friend, you will find this group has something to offer you.

Titan’s Light – A Kansas City God-driven and directed ministry dedicated to helping families through the process of pregnancy and infant loss and to provide assistance through the burial process following a perinatal loss.  It is their hope to be a beacon of light in the darkest hours of this terrible reality.

You Made Me Mom – A South Kansas City-based support group for mothers who have lost babies during pregnancy or infancy.  The group gathers on the third Thursday of every month from 7-9 pm in Brookside (KCMO).  Email Amy (amy@youmadememom.com) for address details.

 


 

Nebraska Resources

Connected Forever – Supports families who have experienced premature birth or infant loss by providing resources, education, and emotional support.

HEALing Embrace – The mission of HEALing Embrace is to provide hope, healing, and support for individuals and families navigating pregnancy loss and or infant death.  We strive to validate and support everyone who faces the impossible task of saying goodbye to their newest family member.

Nebraska SIDS Foundation – a charitable organization dedicated to increasing community awareness of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and providing support for those impacted, so we may see a future where no parent loses a child to SIDS.

No Footprint Too Small – Supports mothers and families who have experienced pregnancy and/or infant loss by offering birth and bereavement doula support, the support of other volunteer bereaved mothers and families with the assistance of a volunteer mental health professional, as well as by providing referrals to helpful resources related to pregnancy and infant loss. 

Open Arms Infant Bereavement Support Group – For loss due to miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss.  Meets at West Hills Church (library – lower level) – 3015 South 82nd Street – Omaha, 68124. Meets every Wednesday night in February, March, April, June, July, August, October, November, and December 7-8 PM.  Contact 402.343.8527.

Angel Gowns – A list of organizations supporting families who have lost the littlest of souls far too soon.  Donated wedding dresses are transformed into beautiful Angel Gowns that are offered to hospitals, birthing centers, and grieving families completely free of charge.

Artful Ashes – Our artists, capture the essence of your loved ones’ spirit in a swirl of color and ashes, sealed forever within glass art.  These amazing pieces comfort your grieving, allowing you to treasure your memories.  Each order is treated with the utmost care and respect, following strict tracking and production methods.  If you don’t live in the Seattle area, we mail you a collection package to securely return a tablespoon of your loved ones’ ashes for each memorial to be created.  We have mailed safely over 35,000 times.

Benjamin Ministries – An outreach to those who find themselves in the bereaving process.  Although our ministry began with the intention to provide special comfort to parents who have lost a child, we have grown into a supportive outreach for any loss.  Our main objective is to offer hope, comfort, and encouragement to the bereaved through the Gospel Message and the living truth of God’s Word.

Compassionate Friends – Through a network of over 600 chapters with locations in all 50 states, as well as Washington DC, Puerto Rico, and Guam, The Compassionate Friends has been providing support to bereaved families after the death of a child for four decades.  Whether your family has had a child die (at any age, from any cause) or you are trying to help those who have gone through this life-altering experience, The Compassionate Friends exists to provide friendship, understanding, and hope to those going through the natural grieving process.

The Cooper Project – Provides handmade necklaces to mothers who have lost a child through stillbirth or infant loss.  The Cooper Project was created after the loss of baby Cooper, who died just a few short days before his due date in June 2016. 

Heaven’s Gain Ministry – Heaven’s Gain specializes in providing services and products for families suffering the loss of a child through miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant death.

Kinsey Bells – A boutique that hand creates custom angel baby memorials for infant loss and miscarriage memorials, custom sewed items, and sew much more! 

Memory Glass – Memory Glass provides a unique method of memorializing your family, friends, and pets by suspending cremated remains within solid glass sculptures and keepsake jewelry.

M.E.N.D. Mommies Enduring Neonatal Death – A Christian organization that reaches out to families who have suffered the loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth, or early infant death.  We publish free bi-monthly newsletters, hold commemorative ceremonies, and host a variety of support groups throughout the nation.  M.E.N.D. is a place for families to connect, share their unique story of loss, and learn to live life without your precious baby.

Molly Bears – Molly Bears provides a way to fill the empty arms of families who have endured the loss of a baby from conception up to 12 months of age.  They create weighted teddy bears that are customized to weigh the specific weight of the baby that passed away. 

Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep – Trained, educated, and mobilized professional quality photographers who provide parents suffering the loss of a baby with a free gift of professional portraiture.  Each family is provided with beautiful heirloom portraits that serve as an important step in the family’s healing process by honoring their child’s legacy.

Perfect Memorials – Since 2001 families have chosen Perfect Memorials for their unique memorial products.  Choose from a variety of products such as cremation urns, cremation jewelry, caskets, and other sympathy gifts.  Many of their products are uniquely crafted by skilled artisans, representing the uniqueness of our loved ones.

PALS: Pregnancy After Loss Support – a community support resource for women experiencing the confusing and conflicting emotions of grief mixed with joy during the journey through pregnancy after loss. We seek to help expectant mothers celebrate their current pregnancy by choosing hope over fear while still nurturing and honoring the grief over the loss of their deceased child.

Still Standing Magazine – In the face of loss and infertility, our mission is to show the world that we are still standing.  Holding fast to resilience and hope.  Our mission is to help you embrace life for everything that it is after experiencing the loss of a child or infertility.  The focus of this magazine is to give a voice to grief; connect hearts around the world who have similar life experiences; and become a resource for friends, family, and medical professionals, to know how to support someone enduring child loss and/or infertility. 

Still Mothers –  Our mission is to provide support and resources for families who have experienced the death of a baby(ies) and are living without a child to raise; to promote healing, peace, and self-care; to raise awareness surrounding the issues of baby loss, secondary infertility, and the choice to remain childless after loss, to acknowledge/recognize the motherhood of women without children to raise; and to foster a “trigger-free” space where mothers can connect, process grief, and find healing without the additional stress and heartache of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood after loss conversations.

Sufficient Grace Ministries for Women – An organization founded with the purpose of reaching out to women and families to offer comfort, encouragement, and hope.  The Dreams of You division of this ministry was created specifically to provide comfort to women and families who have lost a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant death.  Sufficient Grace Ministries offers a comprehensive list of support options for bereaved parents, and parents currently carrying a baby with a life-limiting diagnosis.
